Water?Soluble Photoinitiators from Dimethylamino?Substituted Monoacylphosphine Oxide for Hydrogel and Latex Preparation

In order to respond the growing demand for radiation-curable waterborne products like hydrogels or inks, there is a need water-soluble radical photoinitiators exhibiting absorption in near UV visible range. Herein synthesis of novel type-I diphenylphosphine oxide photoinitiator bearing 2,6-dimethyl-4-dimethylaminobenzoyl group described. The presence tertiary amino para position benzoyl results an increased range and its facile conversion into derivatives after subsequent protonation quaternization reaction. Quaternization with methyl triflate (MeOTf) yields monoacylphosphine compound displaying quaternary ammonium ?N(CH3)3+ OTf?. main characteristics are water-solubility, shelf-stability, near-UV range, low cytotoxicity, efficient ?-scission as evidenced by steady-state photolysis experiments. Its photopolymerization efficiency has been evaluated real-time Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy at 385 420 nm using aqueous solution poly(ethylene glycol) acrylate. polymerization rate comparable that obtained conventional TPO-Li. Using this new photoinitiator, 3D-printed hydrogels, polymer dispersions can be prepared.
